Children have a right to education

A very important law has been recently voted which makes education a fundamental right for children between the ages of six and fourteen. It is estimated that about eight million children aged from 6 to 14 years old do not currently attend school.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that now each child can access free elementary school. He also said that funds will be made available to enable all children to go to school.

Mr. Singh indicated that the government was committed "to ensuring that all children irrespective of gender and social category have access to education". Mr. Singh, who had the chance to get an education during his childhood, said that today he is what he is thanks to the education he received.

Historians say this law marks a very important change for children in India . The fact that children have the right to guaranteed quality elementary education is a historic moment and a major accomplishment for UNICEF.

My opinion: this law will change a lot of things in India. This is a historical landmark for education in India.

Droit à l’éducation pour les enfants

Une très importante loi a récemment été mise en place qui fait de l’éducation un droit fondamental pour les enfants entre six et quatorze ans, car on estime qu’environ 8 millions d’entre eux ne fréquentent pas l’école actuellement.

Le Premier Ministre Manmohan Singh a déclaré que désormais chaque enfant pouvait demander à aller à l’école élémentaire gratuitement. Il a ajouté qu’un capital sera accessible pour assurer aux enfants un accès simple à l’éducation.

M. Singh a précisément indiqué que le gouvernement s’était engagé « à veiller à ce que tous les enfants sans distinction de sexe et de catégorie sociale aient accès à l’éducation ». M. Singh, qui a eu cette chance quand il était enfant, a déclaré qu’aujourd’hui il est ce qu’il est grâce à l’éducation qu’il a reçu.

Les historiens disent que cette loi marque un changement très important pour les enfants en Inde. Le fait que les enfants aient le droit à une éducation primaire de qualité garantie est un moment historique et une étape importante pour l’UNICEF.

Mon opinion : cette loi va changer beaucoup de choses en Inde. C’est un très grand progrès pour l’éducation des enfants de ce pays.
