The government stepped up repression to thwart the protests and banned gatherings of more than four people and those armed with sticks or tear gas.
The violence has peaked up for two weeks: hundreds of Muslims were arrested for no reason, tortured, kept without water or food in a confined place without the possibility to sleep or move.
In Uttar Pradesh the situation is the most critical. Muslims are beaten, and denounced and arrested and tortured by the police.
On December 21 in Muzaffarnagar, a peaceful manifestation turned violent when the police clashed with protestors. Quickly the crowd was the target of the police violence. Police searched for troublemakers of later in the Maulana Asad Raza Hussaini. They arrested 35 students, 15 of whom were under age. And the clerics were stripped and beaten very harshly. The students were also tortured to deliver information and were given no food, medical entrainment or water for two days.

Depuis deux semaines, une importante vague de protestation a commencé en Inde à cause d’une nouvelle loi sur la citoyenneté voulue par le premier ministre Modi.
Cette loi introduit une discrimination envers les immigrés musulmans et des ethnies minoritaires.
Pour réponse, le gouvernement a augmenté la répression, interdit les rassemblements de plus de quatre personnes et le port de bâtons ou de gaz lacrymogène.
Les violences ont atteint leur apogée depuis deux semaines : des centaines de musulmans arrêtés sans aucune raison, torturés, internés sans nourriture ni eau dans un petit espace sans pouvoir bouger ou dormir.

Le 21 décembre à Muzaffarnagar, une manifestation pacifique est devenue violente quand la police a commencé à, s’affronter avec les protestataires. Rapidement la foule était la cible de violences policières. La police a traqué les meneurs et arrêté 35 étudiants dont 15 étaient âgés de moins de 18 ans.
Un religieux a été déshabillé et battu avec une grande violence. Des étudiants ont également été malmenés par la police pour obtenir des informations et n’ont reçu aucune nourriture, ni eau, ni soins pendant plusieurs jours.
