Shushil Kumar has just won 50 million rupees (over $1m) on the gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionnaire?
Amitabh Bachchan, the show's host, handed a cheque for 50 million rupees after the contestant gave nine right answers.
Kumar is from a poor small town where he worked as a governement office worker and supplemented as a private tutor to make ends meet. After winning the jackpot, Kumar said he wants to spend some of his prize money on a preparatory course for India's tough civil service exam and to build a library in Motihari, his city of birth. He also wants to buy a new home for his wife.

Ce scénario ressemble étrangement à celui du célèbre film Slumdog Millionnaire. Kumar originaire d'une petite ville relativement pauvre, vient de gagner 50 millions de roupies. Il était fonctionnaire et gagnait 85€ par mois. Ne possédant pas de télévision, il regardait régulièrement l'émission chez ses voisins, qui lui ont conseillé de participer à l'émission car il répondait à chaque question.
Kumar a décidé qu'en plus d'acheter une nouvelle maison, il financerait une école préparatoire et ferait construire une bibliothèque pour les enfants de sa ville.
