$100,000 for providing water to Rajasthan Villages

 An engineer, Bhagwati Agrawal received The Purpose Price that rewards the 60 years olds and more who are changing lives. This native Indian, 68, was awarded $100,000 for his efforts to bring drinking water to thousands of villagers in Rajasthan.

  He founded a non-profit organization for no profit in 2003 called Aakash Ganga in The United States which developed a system for collecting rain water in the region and also trains children and women to work to stop the diseases in their villages. They created roofs, pipes and underground sewage six villages of 10,000 inhabitants

  Agrawal was grateful as the money will contribute to helping his old village and improve living conditions.

Le Prix de l'eau

Un ingénieur, Bhagwati Agrawal,  a reçu Le Prix de L'Objectif qui récompense les plus de 60 ans et plus qui changent la vie. Cet indien d'origine de 68 ans, a gagné 100.000 dollars pour avoir permis de fournir de l'eau potable à un millier de villageois du Rajasthan.

  

  Il a fondé une association a but non lucratif en 2003 appelée Aakash Ganga aux Etats-Unis, qui a développé un système collectant l'eau de pluie dans la région et forme des femmes et des enfants à lutter contre la propagation des maladies qui frappent leurs  villages. Ils ont installé des toitures et un système de canalisation et de drainage dans six villages de 10.000 habitants.

  Agrawal s'est dit reconnaissant pour ce prix qui lui permettra d'aider son ancien village et utilisera cet argent pour améliorer leurs conditions de vie.

India suspended from any international competition by IOC
On Tuesday 4 December, the International Olympic Committee banned India from Rio Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games because, 10 days before, IOC warned India about the Indian Olympic national committee elections, which they suspected to be rigged by the government. As the Indian Olympic Committee (IAO) did not wince, the IOC followed suit.
After winning six medals in London this year, the alternative for the Indian athletes to participate to any of these games is to participate under the Olympic flag.
Abhinav Bindra, Beijing's shooting champion asserted the trouble due to the banishment would not affect the officials but the athletes, which is, for him very unfortunate.

Le mardi 4 décembre, le Comité Internationale Olympique (CIO) a banni l'Inde des jeux olympiques de Rio, des Jeux du Commonwealth et des Jeux asiatiques parce que, 10 jours plus tôt, le CIO avait mis en garde l'Inde à propos des élections du Comité National Olympique indien, qu'il suspectait d'êtres truquées par le gouvernement. Indian girl shot dead by urinating man in Delhi

A teenage girl named Yusra Khan, 17 years old, was shot in the Nizamuddin residential and commercial district in New Delhi on Friday by a neighbor after she objected to him urinating near the gate of her home.

The man went back into the house with a pistol and said " I'll see you" then he shot twice killing the teenage girl and wounding her mother Sadmani, 40 years old.

 The police said they were looking for the man who is described as a "jobless vagabond","He is absconding but he is somewhere out there and we will get him"

  The Indian capital saw a spate of shootings in September. In one incident, a 23-year-old shot dead his ex-girlfriend, her landlady and then drove to a city suburb to kill her father and sister before turning the gun on himself. A few days later, two friends went on a shooting rampage which left three women and two young girls dead.
The number for gun seizures in New Delhi is increasing and most of the time these guns are illegal like in 2009 the police seized 573 illegal weapons, in 2010 634 and in 2011 770. For 2012, 594 guns have been found by officers over the first nine months.

Quelques jours après, deux amis ont participé à une virée meurtrière au cours de laquelle trois femmes et deux jeunes filles ont été tuées.

Le nombre de saisies d'arme à New Delhi est en augmentation et la plupart du temps ces armes sont illégales. En 2009, la police a saisi 573 armes illégales, en 2010: 634 et en 2011: 770. Pour 2012, 594 armes à feux ont été trouvées lors neufs premiers mois.

  In Andra Pradesh, six constructions workers convicted for the murder of a Nepali guard have now been jailed for seven years. The victim's widows have acccepted to condone the crime for 1,500,000 rupees. Since their husbands were found guilty the six convicts' wives can't be financially aided by the government. As they can't raise that much money either, they started petitioning the State Human Rights Commission to be allowed to sell their kidneys. As the SHRC hasn't answered their claim yet, they declared they would go on with their project even without permission.

In a major breakthrough, the police arrested nine persons and recovered 3,810 grams of gold jewels from them on Monday. The jewels were reportedly missing from the Muthoot FinCorp premises situated on the Arapalayam Cross Road here about a fortnight back following a complaint from the Kerala-based pawn broking firm’s branch manager Balasubramanian that an unidentified gang had kidnapped him and assistant manager Satish Kumar and subsequently took away the gold jewels from their office.Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur, who visited the scene of crime, formed special teams.Four days ago, Selvin of Madurai, surrendered before a judicial magistrate court. The police took him into custody for interrogation. Based on his confession, his accomplices were arrested and their names were given.From the beginning, the police had a suspicion that the entire crime could not have happened without the assistance of either some serving employees or ex-staff of the firm.In this direction, the police inquiries found that Selvin had been the mastermind. His friend, Suryanand, an employee of the pawn broking firm, had provided the tips. To execute the crime, Selvin had gathered like-minded friends.The gang had allegedly kidnapped the plaintiff and his colleague Satish Kumar.After detaining them in an undisclosed location, the keys of the office branch were forcibly taken from them and within a short time the jewels weighing 37 kg were stolen. This story could be a fairy tail of the modern ages. Twenty-five years after he lost in Calcutta's biggest train station, Saroo Munshi Khan found the house where he grew up by looking for it on Google Earth.

When he was 5, Saroo went to search for some change in a train with his big brother. Exhausted, the kid fell asleep while his brother disappears and when he woke up, he was alone in Calcutta's principal train station where no one spoke his language, the Hindi. 

As he couldn't read or write and he didn't know his village's name, for the next week or so, Saroo traveled in and out of Calcutta by train, randomly, hoping to end up back at his hometown, in vain.

After beeing living on the streets for a few weeks, an Hindi-spoker took pity of him and gave him a shelter for three days before taking him to a local prison where he thought the child would be safer. Sarro was then transferred to a juvenile home and then to The Indian Society for sponsorship and Adoption (ISSA) and finally in an orphanage where one day an Australian couple adopted him.

With his new family he went to school and lived a comfortable life in Tasmania. In 2009 after being graduated, he had the crazy idea of looking for the place he grew up and his biological family with Google Earth. As his girlfriend had a fast internet connection, every late night, Saroo searched for his past. Finally he saw something he recognized, a bridge next to a train station, Burhanpur, the first train station where he lost his brother when he was 5. From here, he reminded other details, a river, the woods, and finally he arrived to a village called Khandwa.

He found the Town's Facebook group where he asked questions to inhabitants and ended recognizing this town as the town he lived until his 5 years. "Thankyou!" he wrote "Thats it!! whats the quickest way to get to Khandwa if i was flying to India?"

And so on he jumped in a plane an landed in India where he went in front of the little house of his childhood and found his mother and siblings.  

What a happy end to this story which started so bad.

Cette histoire pourrait être un conte de fée des temps modernes. Vingt-cinq ans après s’être perdu dans la plus grande gare de Calcutta, Saroo Munshi Khan a trouvé la maison dans laquelle il a grandi en la cherchant sur Google Earth.

Quand il avait 5 ans, Saroo est parti mendier dans un train avec son grand frère. Epuisé, l’enfant s’endort et son frère disparaît, quand il se reveilla il était tout seul à la gare principale de Calcutta où personne ne parlait sa langue, l’Hindi.

Comme il ne savait ni lire ni écrire et qu’il ne connaissait pas le nom de son village, pendant une semaine environ, Saroo prit des trains au hasard en espérant arriver dans sa ville natale, en vain.

Après avoir vécu quelques semaines dans la rue, un homme parlant un peu l’Hindi eu pitié de lui et le recueillit pendant trois jours avant de le confier à une prison qui le renvoya vers une prison pour enfant puis au service des enfants disparus et finalement  dans un orphelinat où un couple d’australiens l’adopta.

Avec sa nouvelle famille il alla à l’école et vécu une vie confortable en Tasmanie. En 2009 après avoir été diplômé, il eu la folle idée de rechercher le lieu de son enfance et sa famille biologique en utilisant Google Earth. Sa petite amie ayant l’internet à haut débit, tard toutes les nuits, Saroo recherchait son passé. Il finit par reconnaître un lieu, un pont près d’une zone industrielle et d’une gare, la gare de Burhanpur, là où il a perdu son frère. A partir de là, il se rappela d’autres détails tels qu’une rivière, une forêt et finalement il arriva dans un village nommé Khandwa.

Il trouva le groupe facebook de la ville et posa des questions aux habitants et il finit par comprendre que c’était là qu’il vivait jusqu’à ses 5 ans. « Merci » écrit-il « C’est ça !! Quel est le moyen le plus rapide pour venir a Khandwa si je prends l’avion pour l’Inde ? »

Et donc il sauta dans un avion et atterrit en Inde où il alla sur le pas de la porte de la petite maison de son enfance et retrouva sa mère et ses frères et sœurs.

Quelle fin joyeuse pour une histoire qui avait si mal commencé

Today, no fewer than fifty people on an Air India plane have narrowly escaped an incident that would have been serious without the clear-sightedness of two female pilots, Captain Urmila and her copilot Yashu.

The unit had lost one of its front wheels during take off at Silchar, requiring the pilot to make an emergency landing 235 km farther at the Guwahati airport which boasts very good landing facilities. After hovering above this airport to burn the fuel to prevent fire during landing, captain Urmila finally managed to land without damage.

Air India claimed the fourty-eight passengers and four crew members were unharmed. An investigation about the incident has been opened : "A senior official Sanit Kumar, Deputy Director, Air Safety, is rushing there to probe into the incident," director general of civil aviation (DGCA) EK Bharatbhushan told PTI. The representative of the state of Assam, Tarun gogoi, warmly congratulated the two female pilots for the composure and the courage they had shown in landing safely.

Opinion : If the status of women is still subject of debate in India, we see that they finally can get high responsibility jobs, such as pilot. However, we especially note their commands, and therefore that they are as skilled as men. Now we can hope that small incidents like this one may slowly change attitudes.

Aujourd’hui, pas moins d’une cinquantaine de personnes présentes sur un avion d’Air India ont échappé de peu à un incident qui aurait pu s’avérer grave sans la présence d’esprit des deux femmes pilotes, le capitaine Urmila et sa copilote Yashu.

L’appareil a perdu une roue au décollage à Silchar, obligeant le pilote à atterrir d’urgence 235 km plus loin, à l ‘aéroport de Guwahati, qui est très bien équipé. Après avoir tourné au-dessus de la zone afin de brûler le carburant pour éviter un incendie pendant l’atterrissage, le capitaine Urmila a finalement réussi à poser son appareil sans dommages.

Air India a indiqué que les quarante-huit passagers et les quatre membres de l’équipage étaient sains et saufs. Une enquête sur l’incident a été ouverte : « Un haut fonctionnaire, M. Le représentant de l’Etat de Assam, Tarun Gogoi, a chaleureusement félicité au téléphone ces deux femmes pour le sang froid et le courage dont elles ont fait preuve en faisant atterrir l’avion à turbopropulseurs en toute sécurité.

« Chapeau à vous et à votre copilote pour votre acte audacieux et courageux qui a sauvé la vie précieuses des passagers » a-t-il dit.

Opinion : Si le statut des femmes est encore sujet à débat en Inde, on voit comme ici qu’elles arrivent malgré tout à obtenir des postes à haut niveau d’étude. On retiendra cependant surtout leur maîtrise, et donc le fait qu’elles sont tout aussi compétentes que les hommes. On peut espérer que des incidents de ce genre pourront faire petit à petit changer les mentalités.

Eight-wives-man in jail

Sukumar, alias Anchan Rajesh, 35, was arrested in Somwarpet in Kodagu district, Karnataka on Saturday night for polygamy.

The man had indeed married eight women over the past eight years, in four different states (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kasargod and Madikeri).

Each time he had got a dowry from 10,000 rupees to 40,000 rupees (the salary of the average Indian is around 100 Rs a day, so about 35,000 Rs per year). According to the Police, he split every 15 months, claiming a misunderstanding with his wife or her relatives.

The deceit came to light when Schuba from Vittla published the photo of her missing husband in the local newspaper in May 17, 2012, a photo which Revathi from Padu Thonse, Udupi, came across. Then she filed a complaint on June 8 for adultery and fraud. He had been reported missing after stealing jewelry and 20,000 Rs from her and her mother, while pretending to have found a job in the Middle East.

His first victim was Deralakatte from Meenakshi. He then married Shambavi from Kasargod, as he was working in a hotel as a cook. After leaving her upon an argument over a drinking binge, he married Jayanthi from Uppinangady and Prema from Kaup, Rajani from Dharmasthala and Revathi. There he had wedding with Sunanda and left her some months later when he pawned jewerly to the bank.

Finally, he got married to Subha in Mangalore.

However, these scams have given birth to ten children, and one more to come from his last wife.

Opinion : Officially, the system of dowry is abolished in India today, but you can clearly see it’s not yet the case in practice. India still has a long way to go to change the status of women so that they wouldn’t be just considered as commodities.

Opinion : Officiellement la dot est abolie en Inde aujourd’hui, pourtant on peut clairement voir que ce n’est pas encore le cas dans la pratique. Il reste donc un long chemin à faire pour l’Inde pour changer le statut de la femme afin qu’elle ne soit plus seulement considérée comme une marchandise ou un moyen de s’enrichir.
