Two states hit by flood

Friday 27 September, the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were hit by floods caused by unexpected heavy rains. 

The government of Uttar Pradesh said 93 people had died while 29 deaths were reported in Bihar.

Officials said that the transport and car traffic, healthcare services, schools and electricity were disrupted in both states.

The flooding swept buildings in eastern Uttar Pradesh and the officials had to relocate more than 500 prisoners from the Ballia district.

The rain and the overflowing sewage entered several homes. “The condition of the water is very bad” said one local in the northern city of Varanasi. People have to navigate in the city, by boat.

The state government will pump out the water with helicopters and machines.

Inondations dans deux états

Vendredi, le 27 septembre, une inondation causée par de violentes pluies inattendues a frappé les états d’Uttar Pradesh et du Bihar.

Selon le gouvernement d’Uttar Pradesh « 93 personnes sont mortes » tandis que le nombre de morts s’élève à 29 au Bihar.

Tous les transports et la circulation automobile, les services de santé, les écoles et l’électricité ont été interrompus dans ces deux états.

Dans la région de Ballia, dans l’Est d’Uttar Pradesh, l’inondation a dévasté trois bâtiments d’une prison si bien que les autorités ont été contraintes de déplacer plus de 500 prisonniers.

L’eau de pluie et les eaux usées ont envahi de nombreuses habitations. « La condition de l’eau est très mauvaise », rapporte un habitant du nord de la ville de Varnasi. Les habitants sont donc forcés de naviguer dans la ville, en bateau.

Le gouvernement va pomper l’eau grâce à des hélicoptères et des machines.
