Over 600 flights affected by the worst fog in 8 years

Out of 655 flights altogether, 463 flights were delayed, 52 diverted and 140 cancelled due to poor visibility owing to dense fog in the capital.

The worst fog of the last eight years has affected the timing of over 600 domestic and international flights at Delhi airport, causing troubles to thousands of travellers.  Airports have endured the second longest duration of dense fog conditions in the last eight years.

The heavy blanket of fog forced authorities to suspend flight movement for around three hours on Sunday night, so nearly 150 flights were cancelled and diverted.

“As operations remained suspended, it led to cascading effect on the schedule of other morning flights and finally a large number of flights had to cancelled”, the officials said.

"We were left with no option but to cancel the flights, as there were huge number of flights got delayed due to diversions after they were unable to land at Delhi in poor visibility," the airline official said.

Many passengers complained that they didn’t even have any information about their flights.

The minimum required visibility for an aircraft for the low visibility take off is about 125 metres and 150 metres, depending upon the size of the aircraft.

Flight operations resumed today around 1 AM, when the landings started. Priority was given to international flights, as most of them operate at night, they said.

Opinion:  people’s behaviour irritates me. I find it unacceptable because it’s not the fault of the company, it’s just the weather, and we can’t do anything against it. We can’t have any information on a flight which can’t take off.

Sur 655 vols au total, 463 vols ont été retardés, 52 détournés et 140 annulés en raison de la mauvaise visibilité due à l’épais brouillard dans la capitale.

Le pire brouillard des huit dernières années a « gelé » le calendrier de plus de 600 vols intérieurs et internationaux à l'aéroport de Delhi, infligeant une longue attente à des milliers de voyageurs. C’est la deuxième plus longue intempérie de ces huit dernières années.

La lourde couche de brouillard a obligé les autorités à suspendre les vols à l'aéroport pendant environ trois heures le dimanche soir, donc près de 150 vols ont été annulés et détournés.

« Comme les opérations sont restées suspendues, un grand nombre de vols ont dû être annués » ont indiqué les responsabilités.

« Nous n’avions pas d'autres choix que d'annuler les vols, car un grand nombre d’entre eux ont été retardés en raison de  certains détournements après impossibilité d'atterrir à Delhi », a déclaré le responsable de la compagnie aérienne.

De nombreux passagers se sont plaints qu'ils n'avaient pas obtenu d'informations sur leurs vols.

La visibilité minimale requise pour un avion de la faible visibilité au décollage est entre 125 mètres et 150 mètres, selon la taille de l'avion.

« Les opérations aériennes ont reprise aujourd'hui à environ 1 heures du matin, lorsque les atterrissages ont repris. La priorité a été donnée aux vols internationaux, car la plupart d'entre eux voyagent de nuit », ont annoncé les autorités.

Opinion : je trouve inacceptable le comportement des voyageurs parce que ce n’est pas la faute de la compagnie, mais juste les conditions météorologiques et on ne peut rien faire face à cela. On ne peut pas avoir d’information sur un vol qui ne peut pas décoller.
