Goa’s new face

50 years ago, Goa was freed from Portuguese domination by the Indian army and to celebrate the big event, the smallest state of India has decided to show a new side of its city unknown until today.

The place is well-known for being a touristic destination but Goans are a bit upset by the image of their city where you are supposed to have fun all day long.

“There’s much more to it than the postcard impressions” said Nandini Sahai, Goa International Center’s director. And this is exactly the point of this big celebration commemorating Goa’s liberation. During a whole week, concerts, photos exhibitions and other events will be held to remember this freedom that Goan people have been able to enjoy for now 50 years, but this is also a way to show the emerging Goa.

The city is host to a medley of cultures will promote its image of a paradise-like rainbow city.

La renaissance de Goa

Voilà maintenant 50 ans que la ville de Goa a été libérée par l’armée indienne de l’emprise portugaise qu’elle avait connue durant 451 ans. A cette occasion, la ville a organisé des festivités mais aussi d’autres événements plus sérieux pour montrer au monde un aspect de Goa encore inconnu.

En effet Goa est connue comme destination touristique et a la réputation d’être une ville festive, mais cette image déplait aux habitants car Goa est bien plus que ça. La lecture, par exemple, est un art répandu dans toute la ville et a inspiré le festival des arts et de la littérature de Goa, un évènement très important.

D’autres évènements culturels comme des concerts ou des expositions de photos sont organisés tout au long de la semaine afin de célébrer cette libération mais aussi d’annoncer l’avènement d’un nouveau Goa, défini comme la nouvelle capitale du divertissement et de la culture.
